At the Esseco UK site in Wakefield, the installation of a new sulphur burner marks a decisive step forward in our journey toward more efficient and responsible production.
Thanks to this initiative, by 2025 we expect to achieve an 88% reduction in methane use, significantly decreasing our reliance on natural gas and cutting approximately 1,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
The new system enables us to recover heat from sulphur combustion to generate steam, which will be CO₂-free for up to 95% of site demand — our declared target since the project’s inception. The partial electricity generation from heat recovery is an additional benefit.
