Electric industrial transport in the chemical sector is now a reality!

12 December, 2025

The first 100% electric journey between two Esseco Industrial sites has officially taken place: 25,500 kg of caustic soda, produced at our Altair Chemical plant in Pieve Vergonte, were delivered to the Esseco site in San Martino di Trecate.

Rising to the challenge in Piedmont was our long-standing logistics partner GermaniTrasporti, using a MAN Truck & Bus Italia electric truck powered by green hydroelectric energy from the Megolo and Ceppo Morelli power plants and recharged at our Kempower stations—a charging infrastructure that we are expanding, in the coming weeks, to our other facilities in Italy.

This marks the first-ever electric ADR transport in Italy and the launch of Esseco Industrial’s broader e-mobility project for sustainable chemical logistics.

Upcoming routes will connect:

  • In Piedmont: the Pieve Vergonte and San Martino di Trecate plants with the rail hubs of Busto Arsizio and Segrate, as well as regional customers and suppliers;
  • in Tuscany, the Saline di Volterra plant with Livorno and Piombino.

The energy transition in chemical transport has begun. With zero emissions.
