Perstorp’s european runway de-icer business acquisition strengthens Altair Chemical’s strategic role

The acquisition of Perstorp’s European runway de-icer business by Addcon, a company of Esseco Industrial, also represents an important industrial development for Altair Chemical.

The transaction further reinforces the strategic importance of potassium chemistry within the Holding’s industrial framework, increasing demand for potassium hydroxide (KOH), a key product within Altair Chemical’s chlor-alkali value chain.

The industrial agreement associated with the acquisition is expected to drive higher utilization of KOH produced by Altair Chemical for the manufacture of potassium formate-based de-icers, one of the leading liquid de-icing solutions used across the European airport sector.

Under normal winter conditions, this translates into approximately 10,000 additional tonnes of liquid KOH demand, with volumes potentially increasing further during particularly severe winter seasons.

For Altair Chemical, the transaction creates additional value for its production capacity while reinforcing the strategic role of its Italian manufacturing sites within the international growth strategy of Esseco Industrial.

The acquisition also strengthens an industrial model built on vertical integration, operational synergies and the development of highly specialized chemical value chains, where business continuity and supply chain efficiency are becoming increasingly important competitive factors.
