2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

09 October, 2025

Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi have been awarded the prestigious prize for opening new frontiers in materials science through the discovery of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).

These structures, built from metal nodes and organic linkers, form porous materials with internal spaces capable of hosting and transporting gases or molecules. Their discovery has paved the way for innovative solutions in:

  • carbon dioxide capture and decarbonisation,
  • water extraction from air in desert environments,
  • toxic gas storage,
  • and advanced chemical catalysis.

A recognition that reminds us how essential scientific research is to addressing global challenges — and how chemistry lies at the heart of sustainable industrial innovation.

Esseco Industrial celebrates the excellence of chemistry with a vision for the future.
